"When I discovered that Spike really was a wuss before he was a vampire, that was terrifying."
 James Marsters plays Spike who, like several members of Angel, was first introduced on the now-deceased Buffy The Vampire Slayer. He's been wearing the same black duster since his introduction in BtVS' second season episode School Hard. Spike (a.k.a William the Bloody) is a bad-ass vampire, spawn and lover of Drusilla and former protg to the great Angelus. Spike fell in love with Buffy and sacrificed himself in the show's finale to close the Hellmouth - not for one moment thinking he'd be resurrected and given a new life and new friends in Los Angeles...with Angel.

James' Bio
"[In highschool] I didn't care what people thought about me. I was a punk rocker. Everyone was wearing jeans, flannel, and hiking boots, but I wore Chinese slippers and mascara."
James Marsters attended the renowned performing institution Julliard and graduated from the American Conservatory Theatre. James started acting on the stage in various cities like New York, Chicago and Seattle. He then moved to Los Angeles to begin a career in TV and film. Prior to his Spike, Buffy The Vampire Slayer and now Angel, he appeared in series like Northern Exposure and Moloney. James was invited to audition for Buffy and was given a contract to appear on several episodes in the second season. But Joss Whedon, seeing the impact of his character on the fans, decided to insert him in the show on a more regular basis. Marsters has appeared in a few independant movies. Chance was realized and written by co-star Amber Benson (Tara from BtVS). When not acting, James is the lead vocals and acoustic guitar player of the band Ghost Of The Robot. They released their first CD Mad Brilliant early in 2003.

When he was first asked to audition for Buffy, James declined because he thought the title was ridiculous. He hadn't see the show before. He watched one episode the following day and changed his opinion.
